Title: Assistant Director, RWS Legal(IT, IP)
Job Responsibilities
A. Act as the company's trusted legal advisor and risk manager for various business units including the IT department, providing strategic and timely legal advice aligned with the company's objectives, and maintain a business-partnering mindset that proactively seeks to identify and resolve problems.
Contract Negotiation and Legal Advisory:
- Support internal stakeholders on the review, drafting and negotiations on a broad range of contracts, such as vendor engagements, NDAs, software licensing, bespoke IT system development, and other corporate and commercial activities.
- Offer hands on practical guidance on legal and commercial affairs with the ability to identify and analyze issues with clear recommendations.
- Advise internal stakeholders of contractual rights, obligations and interpretation of terms.
Risk Management:
- Identify key legal risks in projects and provide strategic and practice legal advice to mitigate these risks whilst facilitating business operations and goals.
- Support the resolution of legal disputes related to commercial issues and vendor breaches.
- Collaborate with and manage external counsels and advisors to address complex legal matters and protect the company's interests.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to align business objectives with legal requirements.
- Conduct training sessions on legal compliance.
B. Take the lead to protect the company's intellectual property rights (including patents, trademarks and copyright) and working closely with various departments to ensure compliance and mitigate risks related to IP.
- Manage trademark registration and maintenance, conduct clearance searches and handle trademark disputes.
- Advise on copyright issues related to day-to-day operations.
- Provide training on IP polices, best practices and compliance.
- Stay updated on changes in IP law and industry best practices.
Job Requirements
- Law degree or J.D. from a reputable university and admitted to the Singapore Bar
- 6-8 years’ PQE, preferably with litigation and/or in-house experience. Candidate with litigation experience with a reputable law firm and/or with in-house experience with a technology firm will stand an advantage.
- Confident and clear communicator, able to work with people at all levels throughout the organization including senior management.
- Experience in partnering with fast-paced internal clients and supporting business objectives
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously
- Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented lawyer, who is comfortable working independently and possesses a "can-do" attitude
